Skateboarding is a great recreational and action sport that has been growing nowadays and has got great popularity. Most of the skateboarders are teenagers who use skateboards to get to their colleges or travel from one place to another. Earlier skateboarding was only a sport people use to show their skills and perform tricks on it. Nowadays skateboarders go around the world teaching tricks to people and also telling about the safety measures they can follow while skateboarding.

Skateboarding has almost 4.8 million expenditure, with around 10 million skateboarders in the world, and they are growing rapidly. Most of the skateboarders nowadays are teenagers as they find skateboarding an excellent way of transportation. There are almost 26,000 skateparks in the world and yet are being built and the biggest one is in China.

The skateboards are mostly 38 to 60 inches long with 7 ½ to 8 inches width of the boards. Also, street luge is almost 8.5 feet long, which can reach nearly 80 miles per hour. The other modifications are wind-aided rading and blades for ice-skating.

Also, in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics skateboarding will be included as an official event.

Rodney Mullen is one of the skateboarding legends. He is one of the best skateboarders the world has seen. He started skateboarding at the age of 10, through one of his friends. Rodney Mullen performed many tricks that were still unknown to the world of skateboarding, so we can say that he invented a few skateboarding tricks such as:

2.Tony Hawk:

Anthony Frank Hawk is also one of the best skateboarders the world has seen. He is also an actor and owns Birdhouse, a well-reputed skateboard company. Tony Hawk was “gifted” as he had an intelligent quotient of 144, when his parents psychologically evaluate him, as he was so harsh on himself and expected many things from himself.

He became a professional skateboarder at the age of 14 and rest all is history. He is one of the most successful and influential people in the world of vertical skateboarding.

He also invented a sports exhibition and tour named Boom Boom HuckJam in 2002, Las Vegas. He also owns numerous video games published by Activision and documented 900. Tony Hawk is the first skateboarder to have landed on 900, and he did it on June 27, 1999, and on June 27, 2016, he did his final 900 at the age of 48. He is also known as Birdman. He was named one of the most influential skateboarders of all time by Fox Weekly in 2014. In 2009, Tony Hawk was invited to Barack Obama’s Father’s Day Celebrations, and he skated in the hallways of Executive Office, in White House grounds. He was the first skateboarder to be invited to the White House Grounds by the officials.

3. Paul Rodriguez:

Paul Rodriguez is the son of an actor/comedian Paul Rodriguez. His nickname is P-Rod, which he got at the age of 11 by his friends. After he received his first skateboard as a gift for Christmas, in June 2014, he said: “I got money, I got a skateboard, and it was a game over.” In 1999 he appeared in Microanalysis sponsored by DNA Skateboards. In April 2014 he launched his skateboard brand Primitive Skateboarding consisting of Nick Tucker and Carlos Ribeiro.

He is one of the senior riders in the Nike skateboarding team. He released his eight editions of the Nike shoe in 2014, May. Rodriguez also owns a skateboard park in Canoga Park, California. He also featured in LIFE a six-part web series on him. In Transworld Skate boarding’s 30 Most influential Skateboarders P-Rod said that Eric Koston and Andrew Reynolds had influenced him in terms of the impact and respect they got from the sport.

He won 2012, 2013, 2015 Street League Skateboarding. In 2010 he won the Battle at the Berrics. He also featured in video games such as Tony Hawk’s Underground, Tony Hawk’s project 8, Skate, Tony Hawk’s: Ride, etc.

4. Andrew Reynolds:

 Country: US.
 Date of Birth: 6 June 1978.

Andrew Reynolds is also one of the most famous and best skateboarders in the world. He inspired many people through skateboarding and helped to promote skateboarding around the world and making people aware of it.

In 2000 he co-founded Baker Skateboards with Jay Strickland. He also heads Altamont Apparel. He is also known as The Boss. He also featured in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater video game. He has won the Skater of the year award in 1998 by Thrasher’s Magazine.

5. Bob Burnquist:

His full name is Robert Dean Silva Burnquist. He became a professional skateboarder at the age of 14 after being introduced to skateboarding at 11. He became the first skateboarder to land on a fakie 900 in 2010, thus becoming the fifth skateboarder to land on a 900. He is an excellent switch stance and vert skateboarder. He has won the Vert Best Trick, Vert Doubles in 2000, 2003, 2005, 2001 Philadelphia and Los Angeles Skateboarding Championships. He had also won the Skateboard best air championships in 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012 Los Angeles and 2013, Barcelona, Munich, 2015 Austin Big Air doubles which make him one of the best skateboarders of all time.

6. Eric Koston:

Country: Bangkok, Thailand.

He is a Thai American, so we can call him an American professional skateboarder as he participated and learned the sport in America and resides in America as well. He featured in many video games such as Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2, Pro Skater 3, Pro Skater 4, Underground, Underground 2, Pro Skater HD, Skate It, Skate It 2, Skate It 3. He is a great influence to Paul Rodriguez, and in an interview, Paul Rodriguez said: “ This guy to me is the end-all, be-all. He’s my 100% role model in life. I have studied everything he’s done. You know I love this guy, he’s my favorite skater”.

7. Danny Way:

Country:  Portland, United States.
Date of Birth: 15 April 1974.

He is also a rallycross driver and was awarded Skater of the year twice by the Thrasher’s Magazine. He also pioneered mega ramps, and also the one at the Great Wall of China on a skateboard. He is very famous for vigorous stunts such as jumping on a skateboard ramp from a chopper. His second father Tim O’Dea introduced him and his brother to skateboarding and surfing, where he developed an interest in becoming a skateboarder.

In 1991 he co-founded Plan B along with Mike Ternasky. He is also co-owner of Plan B Skateboards along with McKay. He won the first content at the age of 8 in the year 1986. He entered the vert competition in Michigan, US and won it in 1989. In 1997, he was the first skateboarder to drop into ramp from a helicopter. In 2002 he set a World Record for Long-Distance Jump -65 feet. Also, in the same year, he set a world record for Biggest Air-18 feet  3 inches from the top of the ramp. In 2013 he surpassed his world record for long-distance jump 75 feet (previously 65 feet), and in the same year, he surpassed his own Biggest Air record with 23.5 feet.

8. Stevie Williams:

 Country: Philadephia, Pennsylvania, United States.

He started skateboarding at the age of eight along with his friends, and his group was called “Dirty Ghetto Kids.” After which he founded and became co-owner of Dirty Ghetto Kids Skateboards in friendship and partnership with Troy Morgan from Kayo. Williams is sponsored by DGK, G-Shock, Supra, 9five Eyewear, Gold, Grizzly Griptape, Venture and many more organizations. When asked about the influence of skateboarding, Williams said Rodney Mullen influenced him, and he would be in the top of the list for what he has done to the skateboarding. After him, there was a Daewon song, Guy Mariano, Henry Sanchez, who influenced him.

He also has charity foundation name Save a Heart, Save a Mind founded by his mother, which does charity works at the skatepark in California, U.S.A.

9.Nyjah Houston:

Country: Davis, California, U.S
Date of Birth: 30 November 1994.

Nyjah Imani Houston is a professional street skateboarder who has won many street skateboarding championships in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2017 and 2019. He is the highest-paid skateboarder in the world as of now.

Houston has won so many tournaments that he is the worlds only player to win so many championships. Houston also featured 5th on the Top influencers in the world list by Fox Weekly. In 2009 he started his own skateboard deck company I&I. He won the “Kentucky Unbridled Spirit Award for Action Sports” in 2006. In 2008 he founded Let it flow to serve water for the needy and poor and started selling reusable bottles at the farmers market.

10. Rob Dyrdek:

Country: Kettering, Ohio, United States.
Date of Birth: June 28, 1974.

Besides being a professional skateboarder, Rob is also an entrepreneur, actor, producer, Reality TV personality known for his roles in Rob and Big, Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory and Ridiculousness. Wild Grinders the animated show is also created by him. Fox Weekly labeled him as one of the most influential people in the world. He is also the founder of the Street League Skateboarding series. It offered the highest pursue of 1.6 million $ the biggest in history of sport which was broadcasted by ESPN sports in 198 countries. It also featured in his documentary The Motivation premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival.

His personal bests were:

  1. Longest 50-50 rail grind in 2007- 100 feet 5.75 inches.
  2. Longest boardslide in 2007- 100 feet 5.75 inches.
  3. Highest skateboard ramp jump in the water in 2007 -10 feet 8 inches.
